Ebook pricing

I'm seriously considering reducing (on a permanent basis) the cost of my ebook to $0.99. Currently, it's at $2.99. At the lower price point, how more likely would you be willing to buy? If not, why? I'm hoping for feedback.

THE CONTEST

THE CONTEST

With "Memories of the Dead" now available for Nook, Kindle, and in print, it's time to talk about the contest I had previously mentioned but gave precious few datails about.

It works like this: Starting on January 23, 2012 (this coming Monday) until February 28, 2012, you can enter once to win the prize.

HOW TO ENTER:

Step 1: Take a picture of yourself (face shot, please) holding next to your head either (a) a print copy of the book (available from Lulu.com), (b) your Kindle displaying the cover image, or (c) your Nook or other e-reader displaying the cover image.

Step 2: Email that picture to the following address MemoriesOfTheDead@gmail.com and use the subject line of "Contest Entry".

Step 3: Wait! No, seriously, just wait. On March 1, 2012, I will announce the winner of the prize.

There will only be ONE (1) winner. This is "Winner Takes All," there is no second place. (Sorry.) There will be no other method of entry allowed.

If your entry is chosen as the winning entry, I will contact you via email and ask for a physical address to which the prize will be mailed. You must provide this information within a timely manner (I must receive the return address no later than March 7, 2012); in the event that your communication to me comes after that time, a replacement winner will be selected.

THE PRIZE:

One (1) randomly selected person will become the winner and will receive THE original printed manuscript of the book. This is the one, true, and only copy that was created by me, the author, and was used for submissions to publications. The first page will be redacted slightly, so as to keep my phone number a closely guarded secret (I'm sure you will understand.)

How cool is that? I mean, you get the one thing that actually IS the novel. Not just a trinket or a free copy. You get IT.

Now, just because you get the manuscript does NOT mean you own the material contained therein. You have the pages, the written words are still my copyright. I have in no way transmitted or conveyed that copyright to you. Keep that in mind.

So. Who will be the lucky winner?

The contest opens on Monday, January 23, 2012 at one second past midnight, and will close on March 1, 2012, at one second past midnight. One entry per person only. No duplicate entries or entries using different methods will be allowed.

Are you ready?

Memories of the Dead -- Print Edition is GO!

Voices up, people, to stop SOPA/PIPA

This simple black banner, just a square, really, is all that will be left of the Internet as we know it if SOPA/PIPA are to be allowed to become the law of the land. Just by linking to an external website, innocuously, you could, under SOPA and PIPA, be a felon. Freedom of speech is at risk. Our nation, long a bastion of liberty, has over time become a Corporate state--run by and for the special interests. This is their extending claws, grasping for reach into the thoughts and minds of others. It is unconscionable at the least, and evil in the extreme.

Think those of you who live overseas won't be touched by this black legislation? You're wrong. Even now, there is a British citizen being extradited to the USA. He didn't break UK law. He didn't host files. All he did was point out that files existed, and (acting in a way very similar to Google and Yahoo) simply pointed where they might lie.

But the corporations don't like that; and, being the penny-pinching, evil-doers that they are, they demanded the US DOJ get that kid and bring him here for trial. And so here he will come. It's time to stand up. Corporations are not people, and the rights they have are really privileges we allow them to exercise; and it's time that we say "enough is enough."

Contact your Congressperson. Tell them their support for SOPA and PIPA is wrong, and if they continue they have lost your vote forever. They will take the company money, like a whore; but it is we, the people, that will be bent over and forced to take it. They sold us out, let's show them the force of voice, unified.

Say NO to SOPA and PIPA. Say YES to a free and open Internet.

Sales to date

So far, dear readers, I've sold a whopping four (4) copies! :) That's a good start toward my ultimate goal.

What's that, you ask? Ultimate Goal? Huh?

Well, my whole goal is for Memories of the Dead to sell 11,000 copies in one year. I think that's (a) totally doable; and (b), high enough to be a real target to shoot for. Will we make it? Let's see...

Memories of the Dead -- Print Edition

Very, very soon, you will be able to have in your hands a print copy of the book as well! When? Well, soon. I can't be more specific, but a proof copy (final form) is on it's merry way to me even as you read this!

Color me happy.

What will it look like? Well, it will look just like this:

There's "version one" sitting on my laptop!

The Contest...

I'm going to let slip some info about the contest I will be running. It's vague as hell, but that's because I don't want to ruin the fun yet.

You know how new authors will give out trinkets, or Advanced Reading Copies (ARCs) of their book? This is all well and good, and those are great prizes, and I have even been able to snag a couple of trinkets here and there; but I thought to myself, "What if I were to give away something utterly unique? Something that is/was integral to the whole book? Something that there is only one of in the entire world?"

Yes, that's right. In this contest, should you be the winner, there will only be one prize. Winner, in this case, truly will "take all."

I won't say more at this time, but I think you'll enjoy what you win. At least, I hope you do. We'll see.

More to come!
