Five Sentence Fiction – Flight

The Five Sentence Fiction is a simple idea: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.

This week, Lillie chose the word "Flight," and I went off the deep end a little.
***
I see the birds up in the sky and I wonder why
The wings they wear on the wind don't come in my size
Oh! to soar up in the air with freedom and no cares
But I'm stuck down here in the filth and the dirty air
If I had them, I'd give my wings to another man; call me crazy, but that's just how I am....

  2. I've always had the same wish. I'd only give my wings to my children, though. Everyone else could suck eggs. Well, maybe I'd let you borrow them sometime.

  3. Such a lovely thought. Adored the line about the birds' wings not coming in your size. Love dreams where I'm just flying over beautiful countryside.

  9. To be able to lift oneself up at times of duress wins points for me. Like the others I've always wanted to fly. I would be a bit more selfish and keep them for myself. Nice story.

  12. How I envy the hawks soaring overhead. You are much more generous than I am. If gifted with wings, I'd keep them.

  13. Hello Phil!

    Nice to meet you!

It was a terrific punch the one you packed in this post, it shows you are such a good person giving up one of the things you desire most. I congratulate your sense of unselfishness.

I must recognize I am a lot more pedestrian, it seems a beautiful thing to soar in the sky, but I think I am an eagle raised as a chicken! :)

Thank you for sharing such a good thought!
