The Warrior's Prayer, a poem

I was feeling a bit poetic today, and this was the result. I hope you enjoy it.

I am not evil, am I, O Lord?
Forgive me as I lay down my shield and sword
Kneeling in your chapel, I pray away the pain
Hope against all hope I'll see my home again
Sent here on orders, by men in long gray coats
I obey the best I can, and on my soul is rote
"Thou shalt not kill"-- though I've slit another's throat
I fear you and your wrath, my God; forgive my mortal sin
Let me pass your tempest by, and be Heaven-welcomed in
